Prerequisite: None
The purpose of the sessions is to teach participants how to methodically improve their processes with Six Sigma tools. These sessions will also provide a foundation for the Six Sigma Green Belt exam. Participants are required to bring a laptop with Microsoft Excel installed. All skill levels are welcome. Participants with analytics backgrounds can hone their skills. Newcomers will learn how to use Excel (no previous training required) to complete Lean Six Sigma related tasks.
Session 1 – Six Sigma: The Basics
-----------
The purpose of this session is to show participants how Lean Six Sigma methods can improve processes, ultimately reducing waste and improving profitability. Using a hands-on exercise to explore why “variation is the enemy,” participants will understand the devastating effects variation can have on a process. Six Sigma will be defined and demystified. The DMAIC process will be unpacked and explored. Differences/ similarities between “lean” and ‘Six Sigma” will be identified.
Session 2 – The Analytics
-----------
Today, the term “analytics” is used interchangeably with statistics. There are core statistics/ analytics that can be deployed to measure and analyze most processes. In this session, we will use Excel to calculate descriptive statistics and probabilities as well as transition into basic inferential statistics. Students do not need any statistical background to participate.
Session 3 – The Tools
-----------
Building off Section 2, there are many tools used to analyze and measure process performance. In this section, the 7 QC tools (check sheet, histogram, pareto chart, control chart, fishbone diagram, flow chart, and scatter diagram) will be demonstrated and participants will utilize these tools to create visualizations via Microsoft Excel.
Session 4– Six Sigma: The Exam
-----------
Final exam passing rate of 80% required for certification. Participants have the option to participate in a simulated project during training sessions. If the participant chooses an individual project at their employer, virtual sessions with the trainer to monitor progress are an available as an add-on service.
